…Il jazz italiano continua a proporre nuovi talenti che vanno ad infoltire una già fitta schiera di validi musicisti. In Tale contesto c’è da sottolineare come l’area del centro-sud si caratterizzi quale vera e propria fucina in cui, ad onta di condizioni ambientali non del tutto favorevoli, le energie creative crescono e si sviluppano continuamente. un primo esempio viene da Salerno grazie alla sassofonista Carla Marciano che ha siglato da poco il suo primo cd da leader: “Trane’s Groove” ( DDQ 128059-2). Il titolo stesso dell’album è una sorta di manifesto stilistico: la Marciano si dichiara “coltraniana” ed in effetti bastano poche note del CD per immergerci nell’ atmosfera tipica dell’indimenticabile John Coltrane. Ben Coadiuvata da Alessandro La Corte al piano, Donato Cimaglia allla batteria e Aldo Vigorito e Dario Deidda che si alternano al contrabbasso, la Marciano al sax alto e sopranino sfoggia un linguaggio caratterizzato da frasi lunghe ed articolate, con una buona padronanza di tutti i registri dello strumento e quindi con un alternarsi di suoni gravi ed acuti che testimoniano un’eccellente tecnica, frutto evidente di uno studio serio ed impegnativo…

…The Italian jazz goes on proposing new talents that join the already long list of talented musicians. In this context we must underline that the centre-south area of the country is a real breeding ground where the creative energies constantly grow and develop, notwithstanding its not always favourable environmental conditions. A first example is Salerno, thanks to the saxophonist Carla Marciano who recently recorded her first cd as a leader: “Trane’s Groove” ( DDQ 128059-2). The title of the cd itself is a sort of stylistic manifesto: Marciano declares she is “a follower of Coltrane” and actually few tunes from her CD are enough to make us feel the typical atmosphere of the unforgettable John Coltrane. Well supported by Alessandro La Corte at the piano, Donato Cimaglia at the drums and Aldo Vigorito and Dario Deidda taking turns to play the doublebass, Marciano at the alto and sopranino saxophones shows a style characterized by long and articulated passages, well mastering all the registers of the instrument, alternating low notes with high ones, proof of an excellent technique that is the result of a serious and hard work…
