“Change of Mood” è il terzo album della sassofonista Carla Marciano, dopo l’esordio di “Trane’s Groove” del 2002 (Dischi della Quercia) e “A Strange Day” (2005), pubblicato dal prestigioso marchio Black Saint, per il quale esce anche il nuovo CD. La musicista salernitana, che come di consueto si alterna al sax contralto e al meno comune sopranino, lo ha realizzato assieme ai suoi partner abituali, ovvero il pianista Alessandro La Corte, il contrabbassista Aldo Vigorito e il batterista Gaetano Fasano. Diversamente dai due dischi precedenti, “Change of Mood” è costituito esclusivamente da composizioni originali (otto in tutto) firmate dalla stessa Marciano. Accantonando gli espliciti rimandi coltraniani del debutto, “Change of Mood” vive sull’alternanza tra momenti dalla coinvolgente carica passionale e altri più riflessivi. Emblematica è, a riguardo, la title track: a un inizio quasi cool segue uno sviluppo dalla considerevole carica energetica. Ovunque Carla Marciano mette in mostra una voce strumentale che non può lasciare indifferenti: i suoi interventi solistici sono sempre incisivi, pensati e costruiti con precisi intendimenti espressivi. Dal canto loro, La Corte, Vigorito e Fasano contribuiscono al meglio a un disegno che è nel contempo individuale e collettivo. “Change of Mood” rappresenta dunque un sensibile passo in avanti nel percorso artistico di una musicista che si sta facendo onore sul campo, soffiando nei suoi sassofoni con convinzione ed ispirazione. “Change of Mood” is the 3rd album by the saxophonist Carla Marciano, following her debut with “Trane’s Groove” in 2002 (Dischi della Quercia) and “A Strange Day” (2005), published by the prestigious Black Saint label, which has also published her new CD. The musician from Salerno, who as usual alternates between her contralto sax and the less known sopranino, has produced this cd together with her long-term partners, or rather the pianist Alessandro La Corte, Aldo Vigorito on the double bass and Gaetano Fasano on the drums. Differently from the previous two cds, “Change of Mood” is made up exclusively of original compositions (8 in all) written by Marciano herself, in collaboration with La Corte for the arrangements. Putting the comparisons with Coltrane made at the beginning of her career to one side; “Change of Mood” lives the alternation between moments of intriguing passion with others that are more of a pensive nature. The title track is emblematic: starting from a rather cool beginning follows a development characterised by a great deal of energy. Everywhere Carla Marciano displays an instrumental voice that cannot leave you indifferent: her soloist performances are always incisive, well-conceived and constructed by means of precise expressive meanings. For their part, La Corte, Vigorito and Fasano contribute at their best in a project that is, at the same time both individual and collective. “Change of Mood” therefore represents a sensitive step forward along the artistic path of a musician that is excelling in this field, blowing into saxophones with conviction and inspiration. In Italy, she is now the most pre-eminent female saxophonist on the scene.
